Go Sleep on the Couch

To the tune of Ring My Bell by Frederick Knight and performed by Anita Ward.

New Lyrics (Go Sleep on the Couch) Original Lyrics (Ring My Bell)
I'm glad you're home
And I think you're really hungry
I got a meal that I think you like
Well sit down, drink tea while I go bring out the dishes
Then you and me can eat a way
I'm glad you're home
And I think you really miss me
I guess you did by the look in your eyes
Well lay back and relax while I put away the dishes
Then you and me can rock-a-bye
I done cook all day, cook all day
I done cook all day, cook all day
I done cook all day, cook all day
I done cook all day, cook all day
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell
What'cha mean your mom nev'r made these dishes?
You won't eat beans that done a'split?
My food for you, so long that I've been cookin'
You no reject food, yo reject me!
The night is young and full of possibilities
Well come on and let yourself be free
My love for you, so long than I've been savin'
Tonight was made for me and you
Go sleep on the couch, on the couch
Go sleep on the couch, on the couch
Go sleep on the couch, on the couch
Go sleep on the couch, on the couch
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell
Musical Interlude Musical Interlude
You hurt me so much, you hurt me so much
(slam the door, ba-ong, shut it!)
Go sleep on the couch, anytime, all da time
(slam it, slam it, slam it, slam it oww!)
I don't want no sex, got headache
(slam the door, ba-ong, shut it!)
You're a total jerk, leave me alone
(slam it, slam it, slam it, slam it oww!)
You can ring my bell, you can ring my bell
(ding, dong, ding, do-ong, ring it!)
You can ring my bell, anytime, anyway
(ring it, ring it, ring it, ring it oww!)
You can ring my bell, you can ring my bell
(ding, dong, ding, do-ong, ring it!)
You can ring my bell, anytime, anyway
(ring it, ring it, ring it, ring it oww!)
You're a total jerk, leave me alone
You are so unkind, just go away
You can ring my bell, you can ring my bell
You can ring my bell, you can ring my bell

Rant

Why did I write this song? Because many a friend has confessed that their husbands wounded them terribly when first married by refusing to eat their cooking, They say in their most romantic voices, "What's THAT?" "I'm not eating that." "My mom never made that!"

These husbands don't realize that they wouldn't like it if their wife upon seeing them nude on their wedding night said, "What's THAT?" "I've never seen that before!" "I don't want that!"

Perhaps a more apt (but less humorous) analogy is this: Imagine spending hours lovingly selecting a gift that you are sure your spouse will like, carefully wrapping it in paper you bought specially for this gift, and then presenting it. Instead of opening it, your spouse throws it, unopened, into the garbage. "The wrapping paper wasn't the right colour!"

Don't believe this happens? It does. My friend's husband is so picky that he refuses to eat baked beans if the skins have started splitting. Other friends say their husbands are just as bad. And at church dinners, I've seen many other picky eaters.

Guys, it isn't just the food that is rejected when you turn up your nose. You're also rejecting your wife's love.

It hurts. And it causes many a wife to harden her heart towards her husband, their marriage, and the marriage bed. Because my friends won't tell their husbands how much it hurts - they say it's no use telling their husbands it bothers them because their Christian husbands never listen to them anyways - I'm hoping that humour will do the trick. So guys, listen up if you're a picky eater!

PS. It also hurts your daughter's feelings when you won't eat the food she makes when she is learning to cook.
