She's Like the Swallow
To the tune of the hauntingly lovely traditional song, She's Like the Swallow. This is a song that should be more widely known and sung in churches as the tune is so beautiful. It's sure to be a soloist's favourite.
| New Lyrics | Original Lyrics |
| One day the leaders brought Jesus to see A woman taken in adultery A grievous sin, one price to pay But Jesus their stones, He stay'd that day |
She's like the swallow that flies so high, She's like the river that never runs dry. She's like the sunshine on the lee shore, She loves her love but she'll love no more. |
| He said, "Look at your own life today." "Is anyone here without spot, sin, and strife?" "Can anyone here justly take of her life?" And they all walked away - His words cut like a knife |
'Twas down in the meadow this fair maid bent A-picking the primrose just as she went. The more she picked and the more she pulled, Until she gathered her apron full. |
| He looked at the woman with sorrow and love He told her that she'd grieved her Father above "Now go - live your life in holiness." "Our Father twill be pleas'd, and you will be blessed." |
She climbed on yonder hill above To give a rose unto her love. She gave him one, she gave him three She gave her heart for company. |
| The lesson, my child, to learn from this tale Is that ev'ryone's full of sin - we are just frail Jesus is the one who can pardon our sin When we turn from our ways and embrace only Him |
And as they sat on yonder hill His heart grew hard, so harder still. He has two hearts instead of one. She says, "Young man, what have you done?" |
| So sing "Allelluia" to our Lord and King Our wonderful Saviour who washes us clean When our day in glory comes, there He will be To welcome us home and the angels we'll see |
"How foolish, foolish you must be To think I love no one but thee. The world's not made for one alone, I take delight in everyone." |
| Glory to Jesus, oh, sing with me now Glory to God, to the Father above The wonderful Spirit whose praises we raise We worship you now and forever always |
She took her roses and made a bed, A stony pillow for her head. She lay her down, no more did say, But let her roses fade away. |
| She's like the swallow that flies so high, She's like the river that never runs dry, She's like the sunshine on the lee shore, She loves her love but she'll love no more. |
